Abstract

This thesis is part of an optimization of a new 2D laser cutting machine currently developed at TRUMPF, Ditzingen. The goal of the thesis is to plan and implement a strategy that improves the stability of the Small Parts Removal process. The new machine has a main objective to have a flexible and repeatable safe process with an easier interface so that it can be operated as easy as operating a desktop printer. It uses a concept which is a combination of flying optic and sheet mover machine. With the sheet moving during the cutting process, all parts needs to be removed directly after it has been cut out. The Small Parts Removal of the new machine needed to be optimized so that all parts could be safely removed from the workspace. In order to achieve the goal, there are 2 experiments were done. Firstly, it will be done by introducing the tilt calculation model for the CAD/CAD software. By doing so, the CAD/CAM software could predict tilting during cutting process according to the machine’s condition. As a result, it could avoid cutting a part in a way it could possibly tilt. Secondly, it can be done by increasing the success rate of the Small Parts Removal cycle. One way it can be done is by optimizing the Retry Push-out Cylinder’s cycle. This Retry cycle has a task to make sure that all small parts are safely removed from the workspace. By optimizing these two sectors, the software will help the machine to avoid parts being tilted, and got stuck, as well as making sure that if the part got stuck, it has an effective solution to safely remove the part. The experiment of the Tilt calculation produced an empirical model with which could be used as a general factor value that will fit with various cutting parameter tables. If the part tilts and got stuck in the grid, a Retry sequence has already been found which has a higher parts removal chance.
