Abstract
Paracetamol is one of the active pharmaceutical ingredients that commonly used as a pain reliever. Paracetamol has a potential to have antioxidant activity due to its structure, which contain phenolic group. However consuming paracetamol in high dose will lead the liver microsomes to oxidize the paracetamol into NAPQI, a toxic metabolite that cause liver tissue injury. The synthesis reaction between paracetamol and the CuCl(OH).TMEDA catalyst in room temperature condition was predicted to produce the paracetamol derivatives that expected to have higher antioxidant activity that will be used as an additives to prevent the oxidation of paracetamol. The effect of the CuCl(OH).TMEDA catalyst was studied. After 1 hour reaction the 2 new products was formed. The LC-MS analysis was conducted in order to identify the synthesis product. The dimer and trimer of paracetamol are the possibility of the paracetamol derivatives that formed after the synthesis reaction. The product mixture in this research had higher antioxidant activity compared to the paracetamol standard.
