Abstract
A conceptual framework resulted from this research may serve as reference for shop floor managers seeking to create an adaptive and efficient shop floor management. Late literature research indicates that there are upcoming competition and challenges for Indonesian SMEs. In order to prepare for this, a change in manufacturing performance is needed. The conceptual framework was developed by research from lean manufacturing classic literatures. When a conceptual framework had been formulated, it had to be validated whether it suits the needs of the research object. In this case, the research object is a small to medium scale job-shop. The framework and its elements then was verified through simulation. The framework is found to be suitable for improvement in medium to high volume manufacturing environment, especially where batch production system is traditionally used. JIT, Autonomation, established flow, and production leveling prove itself to be effective in reducing cost, cycle time, and lead time, hence increasing performance and productivity.
