Abstract
The main purpose of this thesis is to develop and implement an additional monitoring system onto an existing Automated Storage / Retrieval System (AS/RS) through wireless connection. Communication between two or more hardware from different platform is the problem to be solved in this thesis. To overcome these problems, a communication system using TCP/IP-packed Modbus protocol is established. Tecnomatix Plant Simulation is used to command and monitor any existing parameters on the hardware. The hardware, controlled by Arduino Mega 2560, is designed as the slave in the system while Tecnomatix acts as the master. One other protocol is designed and implemented using Qt software to enable Tecnomatix to use Modbus protocol; where Qt is the protocol bridging software. The validation of this method is tested through tests on the connection, data exchange, and monitoring system. After the results, the communication system is considered as established.
