Abstract

Walking or running is one of the recommended activities to maintain health. Sometimes people wonder how many calories burn and how many footsteps achieved from doing their daily activities. The purpose of this research is to develop a device for calories burn and footsteps calculation. The device uses accelerometer to measure total footsteps. Then from total footsteps data, value of calories burned can be interpreted. Other factors are needed to perform calories burn calculation. Age, gender, and weight are three factors to get obtain total calories burn. The performance test was done by comparing this device with other devices, such as treadmill and S health application from android smartphone that can measure footsteps and calorie burn. Using this device, footsteps data and calories calculation were performed in different period of time and speed. After performing several tests, comparison results using treadmill and S health application can be obtained with different values of accuracy in calculating footsteps and calories. The accuracy of footstep calculation was 98.09% with deviation ± 2 steps, and the accuracy of calories calculation was 95.35% with deviation ± 1 calorie.
