Abstract
This research study is based on a case at PT. UBS which is a company that produces plastic bottles for automobile oil. In the bottle cap sealing workstation, there is a problem that requires a proper attention. The problem in the workstation is caused by a renewal of bottle cap design, which caused a big impact on the productivity, which leads to a large increase of labor cost. The main purpose of this thesis is to improve the company’s productivity by proposing alternatives to reduce the number of shifts and workers in the workstation which will result in an alleviation of direct labor cost. The data collection will be analyzed using GAP Analysis. Three alternatives will be proposed and compared. The first alternative is to provide workers with manual pressing tools, which will result in a faster takt time and a bigger production capacity. The second alternative is to use semi-automated machines, which will speed up the takt time and reduce the number of workers in the workstation. The last alternative is to provide the workstation with full-automated machines which will also speed up the takt time and reduce direct labor cost. The result is to find which alternative can be selected as the best alternative for the bottle cap sealing workstation at PT. UBS.
