Abstract

The rise of smart grid technology has transformed the electrical power grid through the integration of information technology components, enabling improved efficiency, reliability, and balance in energy distribution. This thesis focuses on developing a SCADA-based communication system using the IEC 60870-5-104 protocol for the Smart Grid Cluster Controller (SGCC). The SGCC, a crucial component of the Clustering Power System Approach (CPSA), facilitates energy supply and demand balancing in smart grid clusters. By addressing communication challenges between field hardware and the control room, the research aims to enhance monitoring efficiency and promote interoperability. Through the adoption of Docker, Node-RED, InfluxDB, ArangoDB, and the IEC 60870-5-104 communication server, the development process of the communication system is outlined. This research contributes to advancing smart grid technologies by improving hardware monitoring and communication.
