Abstract

This thesis project focuses on the implementation of a screw feeder system for salt packaging. Screw feeders and conveyors are widely used in industries for efficient material handling, offering benefits such as controlled mass flow and cost- effectiveness. However, challenges can arise in maintaining consistent mass flow within the hopper, particularly with crystallized particles like salt. To address this, a tapered screw feeder is employed to ensure smooth particle movement. The project utilizes a PLC as the microcontroller for continuous manufacturing with minimal human intervention. A NEMA 34 stepper motor maintains the controlled rotation of the screw feeder, while a load cell sensor provides feedback to the PLC. The performance of the system is analyzed through data analysis, output volume comparisons, and evaluation of mass flow distribution. The findings contribute to the enhancement of screw feeder system design and functionality in various industries, improving material handling processes and operational efficiency.
