Abstract
Biodiesel has considered as an alternative fuel to replace conventional oil in the world. Biodiesel production raw material mainly came from palm oil that leads to deforestation and food or energy dilemma. Especially in Indonesia based on government policy to increase the utilization of biodiesel blending for 30% in 2020. Alternative raw material that utilize waste is required, at the same time producing energy and reducing waste. Spent coffee grounds is an alternative raw material for biodiesel production. Since in Indonesia the coffee consumption estimated be increase 12.5% in 2018/2019 leading to large amount of unutilized spent coffee grounds. This research focused on producing biodiesel from Indonesian sachet coffee and Indonesian coffee shops coffee, the coffee oil was extracted from spent coffee grounds which later the coffee oil was become the main component for biodiesel production process. By varying methodologies for both sample direct esterification and direct transesterification. The direct esterification shown a promising result for biodiesel production with FAME content 78.7% for sachet coffee and 69.2% for coffee shop coffee sample.
