Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to fill in the gap of knowledge regarding the correlation between relationship stages and computer-mediated communication intensity. Also, this research is purposed to compare the results between the samples who undergo a long distance relationship and samples who undergo a non-long distance relationship. This thesis is designed as a quantitative research which surveys, and using the online questionnaire as the instrument to gather the data. The questionnaire distributed to 140 respondents who undergo romantic relationships, either long distance relationship (LDR) or non-long distance relationship. For the data analysis, this research is using Pearson’s correlation study and mean tabulation to find out the highest relationship stages’ element score. The result of this research shows that there is a moderate positive correlation between the relationship stages and computer-mediated communication for both sample category and the samples who are in LDR has a stronger correlation than the people who are in non-LDR. Also, based on the calculated tabulation, Coming Together element has the highest relationship stages score, followed by Relational Maintenance and Coming Apart elements.
