Abstract
Biomass, as one of the renewable energy resource, could be one of the answer to substitute depleted fossil fuel. As one of the world largest oil palm producer, indonesia produce a high amount of oil palm waste. Empty fruit bunch is one the example which could be manufactured into biopellet. Previous study about biopellet from EFB has been done with base pretreatment to optimize the characterization. However, the ash content does not meet the indonesian standards. This research as a literature review research objective was to analyze acid pretreatment influence on biomass ash content through literature review research methodology. Three pretreatment methodology which are water pretreatment, base pretreatment, and acid pretreatment are compared to see which give the best results of ash content removal. Acid pretreatment shows the highest results of ash removal in one of the experiment with 98.14%, followed by base pretreatment 86.5% and water pretreatment 81.03%. Most common acid that were used in the research are HCl and H2SO4. Another results also shown that acid, base or biomass type influence the ash content removal rate. Overall, acid pretreatment shows the best consistency towards ash content removal and could reach the indonesian standards.
