Abstract

Urban green spaces are the new pride of Surabaya, replacing Surabaya Zoo (Kebun Binatang Surabaya / KBS) which now has been labelled the „Zoo of Death‟. One of Surabaya‟s many urban green spaces is Bungkul Park, which won the 2013 Asian Townscape Award as the best city park in Asia from the UN. This study endeavors to analyze the possibility of an urban green space becoming a sustainable tourism destination in Surabaya. It only focuses on a case study of Bungkul Park, Surabaya. Data gathering was done through questionnaire distribution to park visitors and secondary data was collected from journals, books and other sources. The data was analyzed using a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The result of SEM analysis reveals that there is no significant influence of an urban green space towards being a sustainable tourism destination. However, this study provides fundamental information that could be used for future research concerning urban green spaces and sustainable tourism destinations.
