Abstract

Patients with Diabetes Mellitus have increased every year due to the population growth, aging, urbanization, and increasing prevalence of obesity. Butterfly Pea Leaf or Clitoriaternatea L. has been investigated for having antihyperglycaemic activity toward the blood glucose level of alloxan-diabetic mice. The present study was conducted to produce capsules from Butterfly Pea Leaf extract through spray-drying method to increase convenience of storage and consumption. Maltodextrin become a parameter in spray-drying method. Based on preliminary research, the most suitable concentration of maltodextrin was 10%. 20 diabetic patiens were treated by capsules from Butterfly Pea Leaf Extract were given to 20 patients in Bogor. The treatment was succesfully decreased the majority of blood glucose levels of patients including patients who served as healthy control. Their blood glucose levels were remained stable in the normal range in the other word, it did not cause hypoglycaemic. Personal adaptation capability in consuming capsules from Butterfly Pea Leaf extra was also observed.
