Abstract

In today’s world, data transmission, whether we realize it or not, plays a huge role in our lives. Today, as the bandwidth usage of data transmission using the Local Area Network (LAN) or the internet connection is increasing rapidly, we may need to find other alternatives to fulfil our data transmission needs. Power-line communication is one of many means of data transferring method which could suffice our data transmission needs. The electrical and software design of the power-line modem as well as the design of the hub device used to connect the Modular Production System stations to the microcontroller will be discussed. The user constructs a program using a computer/laptop, and then the program is sent to the power-line module which will be acting as the transmitter, here the digital data from the computer will be transmitted as an analogue signal, the modulation process is handled by the power-line module. The power-line module then transmits the modulated signal over the power-line network and then received by the receiver power-line module. The data is then converted back to its original form which is a digital signal, and sent to the microcontroller as digital data. The result is the applying power-line communication in controlling the Festo Modular Production System stations is achieved..
