Abstract

This thesis develops a system that integrates the Siemens Tecnomatix 11 Plant Simulation software with Mitsubishi Movemaster-EX RV-M1 utilizing Modbus over TCP/IP and RS-232 protocol translation, so that it can be a new innovation in engineering field that collaborates simulation with the actual robotic device. To reach the goal, a Modbus reader and a protocol converter applications are developed. Those two are separately located in different hardware devices, a Windows-based PC and a Linux-based Raspberry Pi respectively. The Modbus reader application serves to process the Modbus message sent from the simulation model. The process will result in a modified Modbus message, which corresponds to the data carried by the Modbus message from the simulation model, that is to be sent to the protocol converter. The protocol converter application serves to obtain the robot command contained in the incoming message from the Modbus reader application and then send it to the robot. By the end of the project, the simulation model is able to be integrated to the RV-M1 robot. The robot performs a movement corresponding to the workpiece color that enters the final station of the simulation model.
