Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to produce a vision system for tennis ball launcher using camera and laser as a target detection and a distance measurement system. The sentry gun from previous thesis work which were done by Ricky Herlambang were modified to meet the suitable requirement for the pneumatic launcher’s dimension. Previously the camera position are fixed in the body of the sentry base, but now the camera are placed on top of the launcher’s barrel. With such a configuration, the camera view are broaden, since the camera is moving as one with the barrel. An Arduino Mega 250 board which is based on the AT Mega 2560 were used as the main microcontroller board. The system received feedback signals from two sensors: an incremental rotary encoder and a web camera, the camera and the laser were placed parallel to each other in a fix distance, once the camera spot the laser pointer’s light on the target, then the triangulation method will be incorporated to calculate the distance of the target. Based on the projectile motion equation, firing angle will be obtained after distance of target is acquired.
