Abstract

This work described the improvement activities of PT. Inti Ganda Perdana, Astra Otoparts in Rear Axle Assembly Line-A, using a line balancing methodology. Four assembly balancing methods were studied: Ranked Positional Weight (RPW), Region Approach, J-Wagon, and IGP Group line balancing rules using Kaizen. Selection of the most suitable method is made based on the performance criteria used in line balancing. With these improvement activities, the best line balancing method was found to be a method of IGP Group rules using Kaizen that managed to reduce the total cycle time, the number of workstations, and the number of operators. This study also proposes assembly line improvements using simulation methods. Two types of simulation models were designed and showed that the process time performance of the proposed system was better than the current system.
