Abstract

With the rapid advancement of prosthetic technology, companies all over the world are racing each other to create more and more breakthrough in the design of prosthetic devices. However, many people, especially in developing and under-developed countries, still have limited access to prosthetic devices due to the lack of the availability of affordable and easy-to-produce devices. This project creates a new design of bionic hand that will be fabricated through additive manufacturing method or better known as 3D printing which hopefully can help to increase the accessibility of prosthetic devices. The details of this project will be explained in this report, which includes the mathematical model regarding the grip force of the fingers and the way of designing the mechanical parts of the hand to improve the overall performance of the hand while keeping the production cost low. Through this project, it is hoped that the end result of the bionic hand produced can become a useful and valuable option for people with arm disabilities all over the world, especially in developing and under-developed countries.
